Salvation Army to begin taking Christmas assistance applications

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7)- The Salvation Army will begin taking Christmas assistance applications October 9 at 724 Dale Avenue SE.

Low-income families residing in the county and city of Roanoke, Vinton, Salem, Craig and Botetourt County can apply for assistance for their children who are under the age of 12 from October 9-11 and October 14-18 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 6 p.m.

The Salvation Army emphasizes these are the only signup days. There will be no makeup days.

In order to apply, people MUST take: a photo ID for the head of household, proof of residence, proof of household income, proof of children (Social Security cards will not be accepted), proof that the child or children has the same address as head of household (such as report cards, shot records or lease agreement), clothing and shoe sizes for each child and gift suggestions.

The Salvation Army asks that you don't take your children with you, in order to process families more quickly. As a reminder, gift purchases are at the discretion of the sponsor; it is ideal to keep gift ideas at $40 or less.
