The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a woman near the New River. After Sunday’s efforts, search crews have stopped searching for the day.

The first search was conducted by the Pulaski County Special Operations Team, the Radford Fire Department and the New River Valley Swift Water Rescue and Dive Recovery Team. The search ended around 2 a.m. and resumed at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

Land search crews were able to check the banks along the river while boats were able to check more shallow areas of the river unable to be reached on foot. Helicopter and dive teams had trouble searching due to poor water visibility in portions of the New River.

If the water gets clearer, dive teams, helicopter searches and land search teams will continue searching on Monday.

Witnesses told deputies that a woman jumped off the Radford Memorial Bridge Saturday Night around 11:45 p.m. after parking her car on the bridge and climbing the railing.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Radford City Police Department, the Radford Fire Department, the Pulaski County Search and Rescue Team, the Carilion Lifeguard 10 Helicopter and the New River Valley Swift Water Rescue and Dive Recovery Team.
