Severe storm leaves downed tree, crushed cars and power outages
Several hometowns will be cleaning up after Wednesday's storm blew through the area. The storm was brief but powerful. Several people still have trees down in their yards and power outages at their homes. Some of the most severe damage was right here in Roanoke.
Trees toppled around the city. One blocked Piedmont Avenue near Walnut Avenue. A piece of a splintered power pole tangled in the lines above the street. A tree damaged three cars on Surrey Avenue in Northwest. There was also minimal damage to a home nearby.
Several viewers sent WDBJ7 pictures and videos of the damage they saw.
Corey Curtis captured the beginning of the storm when the sky was painted an ominous grey.
When the storm broke in Blacksburg, it brought hail. Emmalee Bryant sent us a video where you can just barely make out the nickle sized hail that fell on parts of the NRV.
Chris Leneave sent us pictures of a tree that completely crushed at least two different cars in Roanoke.
Over in Botetourt, Brandon Pierson took photos of downed trees and tree limbs.
A tree also blocked Etzler Road in Troutville.
Gloria Brown in Rockbridge sent us a photo of another massive tree that fell in the storm.
Summer storms are just getting started so if you see damage to your area, you can submit your photos and videos on the
page at the top of WDBJ7's website.
