HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The Henry County Sheriff's Office is saying social media rumors of an alleged abduction are not true.

On Friday, November 29, deputies received reports that a man was watching two teenage girls and talking with someone on a walkie-talkie in the parking lot of the 2700 block of Greensboro Road in Ridgeway.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies found and spoke with the man, who said he was in the area shopping. Investigators found video appeared to show the man was in the area shopping, and was not a threat to anyone.

Deputies say the man was talking on his cell phone and knows one of the girl's parents.

Because of social media rumors, the Henry County Sheriff's Office said it wanted to ensure the community there have been no abductions or attempted abductions in Henry County.

The sheriff's office urged anyone who sees something suspicious or has knowledge of a "real and specific" threat to call 911 or contact the sheriff's office at (276) 638-8751, and to do so before posting on social media.
