Suspect in Lynchburg standoff taken into custody

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7)-- Lynchburg Police have a man in custody after a standoff that lasted more than two hours.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the 3400 block of Sky View Place for a call of shots fired. Their investigation indicated Brian Arthur, 41, of Lynchburg, had fired several shots into the air.

Police say Arthur did not comply with their commands. Officers and members of the LPD Crisis Negotiation Team spoke with him for more than two hours before members of the LPD Tactical Unit took him into custody. He is charged with reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm in city limits.
