Smith Mountain Lake Paddleboard Race opens new surf-ski category

MONETA, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The 7th Annual Smith Mountain Lake Stand-Up Paddleboard race is happening Saturday, September 21, at the Smith Mountain Lake Community Park. This year there will be a 6-mile surfski category and 2-mile kayak category that suits any skill level. All ages are welcome to compete or try out paddle boarding.

The race begins on the beach and will take racers to and around a small island for a route 2-4 miles long.

The awards ceremony will take place at Rancho Viejo, directly after the race.

Stand-up paddleboards will be available to rent courtesy of Mountain 2 Island Paddleboard Company.

The registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the race starts at 9:30 a.m. Race entry is $30 in advance and $40 the day of the event.
