Snow and ice affect Floyd businesses

FLOYD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - There is a lot of ice in Floyd County, but these dangerous conditions aren't stopping some businesses from staying open.

Mexican food with a side of snow.

"We rarely even close, it's something that we're pretty well known for, we never usually close," Jose Perez, a waiter and the owner's son of El Charro, said.

El Charro--a local Mexican restaurant in Floyd County--was one of the only restaurants open here--they weren't letting the snow shut them down.

"We usually get most of the people that work for VDOT, come in and get a quick lunch, usually just them and then every now and then we get some local people," Perez added.

But just down the road, the Floyd Country Store made the call to close for the day.

Heather Krantz, Co-Owner of the Floyd Country Store, said, "It's awful for business, Saturdays especially in the winter months, you know weekends is how we make a lot of our money and so yes, bad weather weekends are not good for business."
