MONETA, Va. (WDBJ) - From now until Sunday, you have the chance to listen to country music artists, all while supporting a great cause.
Will Gunnell grew up performing--writing, playing and singing songs. He does it for fun and entertainment, but this year that's changing.
"It's just to help children who need it, with transportation, with equipment in the hospital, heart monitors," Gunnell said.
Inspired to help others after he hosted and then adopted his now son from Haiti.
"He has a lot of physical, mental disabilities. We flew to California for cranial reduction surgery, he has rods in his backs, has occasional seizures, but really you couldn't ask for a better child."
Gunnell will be playing at the Lyrics on the Lake Festival on Smith Mountain Lake to raise money for other kids. It will go to local Children's Miracle Network hospitals.
"It's given me a chance to use what God has given me. What little bit that I have, to use that to help somebody else, it's just a matter of giving back," Gunnell said.
Since Lyrics on the Lake started seven year ago, its grown in size, with more audience members, more performers, and more reasons to come and watch.
"We really have a heart for our community but especially for our children, we have made some visits to the hospital and seen firsthand what some of our children are going through," Brent Jones, Coordinator for Lyrics on the Lake, said.
The performances will be going on until Sunday, and it's all free but donations are encouraged.
"It's more than just a song, it's doing something that can really benefit somebody," Gunnell said.
