Southside prepares for snow

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - Driving in southside may be more difficult this weekend.

"Each snow storm is different," said Rick Drazenovich with Danville Public Works.

More snow is headed our way, but this time around, ice and freezing rain could impact travel more than heavy accumulation.

"A storm like this where we're right on the edge of the mix, rain snow line, we're probably going to have more of a problem with slick roads, probably put down more abrasives, more salt, more sand, and less passes with the snow plows, so its a different kind of snow fight."

In December, sand wasn't even used, just due to the shear amount of snow that came down.

"The Sand is not as effective in deep snow as it is in shallow snow and on the ice," said Drazenovich.

But now, its getting dumped into trucks, and those trucks are covering the roads you use to travel.

Crews will work 12 hour shifts in Danville.
