Middle school and high school girls interested in STEM careers had the chance to hear from a panel of inspirational speakers on Tuesday night.
Alexandra Jabbarpour is a junior at Community High School.
She put the Girls to Stem-MD Symposium together at the Jefferson Center because she believes it's important for young girls to engage with women experts in career fields that lack female workers.
"The goal for this symposium tonight is that girls of all ages leave today with stories of five inspirational women, experts in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and the medical field," Jabbarpour said.
Women make up half of the US college educated workforce, but only 29% of science and engineering careers.
