State Police identify man killed in officer-involved shooting in Wythe County

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) -- State Police have released the name of a man killed during an officer-involved shooting in Wythe County.

The shooting happened at a Greyhound bus station just off Interstate 81 in Fort Chiswell on Wednesday.

In a release, officials said that Olajuwon Murphy died at the scene, and that two guns belonging to his were found at the scene.

Deputies were responding to a report of an armed robbery at a hotel across from the station, when witnesses told them a man matching the robber's description was at the bus station.

Officers said Murphy shot at them, and they shot back.

A deputy was hit in the leg and taken to the hospital. He is on administrative leave as State Police continue to investigate.

Murphy's body was taken to the Medical Examiner for autopsy.
