One dead, three injured after crash in Campbell County

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Virginia State Police say one person is dead and three others were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash in Campbell County.

Police say the crash occurred on December 4 around 3:10 p.m.

A 1987 Dodge Dakota was traveling east on Route 680 when police say it failed to stop for a stop sign. The Dodge then pulled onto Route 501 and into the path of a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling south on Route 501.

Police say the Ford was unable to avoid the Dodge and struck it in the side.

One passenger in the Dakota, Tonya L. Wood, 37, of Lynchburg, died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge, a 43-year-old Campbell County male, is being treated at the hospital for life-threatening injuries. A second passenger, a 40-year-old Campbell County male is also being treated at the hospital. His injuries are considered serious.

The driver of the Ford pickup, a 64-year-old Spout Spring, Va. man is being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the driver and two passengers in the Dakota were not wearing seatbelts and all were ejected from the vehicle.

Charges are pending in this crash.
