State Police investigating hit-and-run in Halifax County

Virginia State Police are investigating a hit-and-run of a pedestrian in northern Halifax County at the Staunton River and Campbell County line.

The crash happened at 6:45 a.m., Friday on Route 501/L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway, just a half a mile north of Route 632/Hog Wallow Road.

Two vehicles were traveling north on Route 501 when one of the vehicles tried to pass the other one.

The passing vehicle illegally used the right shoulder where it struck a male pedestrian walking on the right shoulder. After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle struck the guardrail.

The impact of the crash threw the pedestrian to the ground and the suspect vehicle fled the scene.

The pedestrian was transported to Centra Lynchburg General Hospital where he is still being treated for life-threatening injuries.
