MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) State Senator Bill Stanley says he will not run for Virginia Attorney General next year.
On Friday, Stanley was elected chairman of the New College Institute Board of Directors
He said he was preparing to launch a bid for the Republican nomination for Attorney General, but decided it was more important to help NCI get where it needs to be.
The institute is celebrating its 10th anniversary and now has more than 700 people enrolled in programs that lead to degrees or certifications.
But many supporters believe it hasn't fulfilled its potential to help retool the southside economy, prepare residents for in-demand jobs and fuel economic growth.
Among the proposals under consideration are an affiliation with Longwood University or an agreement with the community college system to offer four year degrees.
Stanley says those and other ideas are on the table as NCI looks to the future.
