Veterans from western Virginia will have their eyes on Richmond when lawmakers return to the State Capitol in January.

Thursday night, members of the Roanoke Valley Veterans Council met at American Legion Post 3 in Salem to hear from Delegate Joe McNamara (R-Roanoke Co.), Delegate Sam Rasoul (D-Roanoke) and Senator David Suetterlein (R-Roanoke Co.).

Among the issues Virginia veterans groups support is a proposed tax credit for employers who hire members of the National Guard.

Perry Taylor is a U. S. Army veteran.

"They really need that because the guard are having a lot of problems keeping their jobs when they deploy and come back," Taylor told WDBJ7. "And that tax credit would give the employers a chance to keep them on board and not hurt them."

The General Assembly session will begin January 8.
