Staunton Police searching for man considered armed and dangerous

STAUNTON, Va. (WDBJ7) - Staunton Police are searching for a man they say has a warrant for second degree murder.

Staunton's police department released a statement just before midnight Saturday asking for the public's help in finding Orion Jeffrey Painter.

Police say on February 24th at 8:39 p.m. a woman named Melanie Wade died at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

After consulting with the Staunton Commonwealth's Attorney, police obtained additional warrants against Painter for second degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

As of Saturday evening, Painter remained at large. He is considered armed and dangerous. He may be driving a silver Jeep Cherokee with a Virginia license plate of VNT-8427.

Painter, 22, is described as being a white male, about 6' tall and 220 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
