ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Eight future healthcare professionals spent their morning shadowing nurses at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Students interested in the health care field were able to really get a first-hand look at what it's like to work in the hospital.
One rising senior participating, Audrey Rowe, said she was even able to watch a "code blue,” learned about patient care, and how technology is incorporated into the job.
"I have always been interested in becoming a health professional. I volunteer at a retirement home in Roanoke, and I just thought it'd be really cool to see a different side of it," said Rowe.
This is the 3rd year for this volunteer shadow program “In Step with a Nurse”. And this comes at a time where the health care community is working to help fill nursing positions.
