Students from Boston help clean up Blue Ridge Parkway

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Spring is right around the corner, which means millions will be traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. Some students from Boston are spending their spring break here helping to spruce it up.

A group from Boston University has been in town since Sunday, and they’re working around the Roanoke Mountain Picnic Area. Their primary job Wednesday was raking leaves. The group partners with Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway. A volunteer says this may not seem like much, but it is a huge help for the National Park Service.

Jim Holley, Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway Volunteer, said, “They have to take care of high priority items. A lot of times we come in and do something like this so the national park service can focus on the main body of the Blue Ridge Parkway.”

The students will be in town through Thursday.
