PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) -- A northern Virginia middle-school teacher has been arrested and charged with assault after police say he grabbed an 11-year-old student and held her upside down by the ankles.

Prince William County Police say 40-year-old Tenkoran Agyeman of Alexandria faces the assault-and-battery charge after an incident early last month at Rippon Middle School in Woodbridge.

Police say Agyeman grabbed an 11-year-old girl by the ankles in a classroom and that the girl hit her head on a desk as a result.

Agyeman was arrested Tuesday and released on bond. He did not respond to an email seeking comment.
