In the summer of 1944, the small town of Bedford, Virginia was shattered. In a single day the town lost 20 of its young men. It was June 6, 1944 now forever remembered as D-Day.
Bedford would suffer the greatest number of casualties, per capita, of any American town. In The Final Salute, we're recognizing the 75th anniversary of D-Day by revisiting this quiet town in southwest Virginia. We'll take you to the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford and tell you the stories of the men the town lost, as well as the men who returned. As we lose more WWII veterans every day, Bedford is spending this year giving these men their Final Salute.
