PULASKI CO., Va. (WDBJ7) -- UPDATE:
Police have identified the person killed in a triple-tractor trailer crash as Ronald W. Harris, 73, of Gainsville, Ga.
Police say he was driving a 1991 Oshkosh M1074, a military truck, when he lost control due to slick roads. The truck was then hit by two tractor trailers traveling south on Interstate 81.
The M1074 and one other tractor trailer ended up in the median. The other tractor trailer crossed through the median, the guard rail, the northbound lane of I-81 and hit a fence.
Both tractor trailer drivers were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
State Police have said that one person has died following a crash in Pulaski County.
Police say at 8:51 p.m., State Police responded to a three-vehicle crash at mile marker 89 in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Pulaski County. The crash involves three tractor-trailers and there is one confirmed fatality.
Police say it is not known at this time if the weather was a factor in the cause of the crash. Motorists are still advised to be cautious if traveling through this stretch of Interstate 81 due to the ongoing crash scene and investigation.
VDOT is reporting a tractor-trailer accident that is causing backups in Pulaski County.
Reports say the accident happened at Mile Marker 89 on Interstate 81 South. The North left shoulder and left lane are closed. The South left shoulder and left lane are also closed.
There is no word on how many vehicles were involved or whether there are injuries.
