ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) A traveling art project that honors cancer survivors has reached the Roanoke Valley.

Jeremy Gorup is spending a year visiting cancer survivors for his project 1 Million Hands.

This week he's visiting the Roanoke Valley, encouraging survivors to share their stories, and add their colorful hand prints to the van he's driving across the country.

"Each individual is just one amazing story," Gorup told WDBJ7, "but you get to see a lot of similar type people battling similar things, and know that you can come together and ask questions and not be afraid."

The1 Million Hands project will be located near the Planet Fitness at Towers Shopping Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and at the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Dale Avenue from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. through Saturday.
