BOTETOURT CO., Va. (WDBJ7) -- Twelve people were displaced following an apartment fire in Daleville on Saturday morning.
The Botetourt County Department of Fire and EMS say they were alerted of an apartment fire at 2:51 a.m. on 161 College Drive in Daleville. Initial reports indicated that a window air conditioning unit was on fire and an attempt was made to evacuate the building.
Crews say upon arrival, flames were visible from two of the second story windows. Tenants reported that everyone in the complex had been evacuated and accounted for. The fire was brought under control in 15 minutes.
Fire officials say the original apartment involved was heavily damaged from the fire, smoke, and water and two additional apartments sustained smoke and water damage, causing 12 people to end up displaced.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist those in need of temporary placement.
At this time, officials do not know what caused the fire.
