Washington County man charged after striking two in the head with hammer

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7)-- Update:
A man has been charged after he allegedly struck two people in the head with a hammer in Washington County.

John Jefferson Tuggle was charged with two counts of malicious wounding in relation.

According to a press release, Tuesday night, Tuggle went into another home, retrieved a hammer and struck both victims in the head with the hammer.

After the encounter, Tuggle fled back to his home at 32364 Santa Cruz Drive where he was taken into custody.

Washington County Sheriff's office said the two victims that were transported to the Bristol Regional Medical Center and are in stable condition but are still being treated for their injuries.

The victims have not been named at this time.

Two victims were allegedly assaulted with a hammer Tuesday night and were brought by helicopter to local hospitals in Washington County.

At around 9:27 pm, a call came into police reporting an assault that had occurred on Santa Cruz Drive. The suspect in the case has been apprehended, and no names are being released in the case.
