UPDATE: Man wanted for walking away from a work detail has been arrested

Dekey Trevor Penn, has been arrested, and charged with escape custody and is being held with no bond in the Martinsville City Jail.

Officers with the Martinsville Police Department and the U. S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Penn in the Villa Heights area around 11:15 am on November 8, 2017.

The arrest was the result of an active investigation/manhunt by the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office, the Martinsville Police Department, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

The multi-agency team has been actively searching for Mr. Penn since he walked away from a work detail on September 13, 2017.


Several agencies, including the Martinsville Police Department and Virginia State Police, are still looking for an inmate who escaped in September.

Dekey Trevor Penn walked away from a work detail in the west Fayette Street area of Martinsville on September 13.

Authorities believe he is still in the region, and he may with his girlfriend, Latonya Turner.

Officials say Penn frequently changes his hair styles, and was last seen with his hair partially dyed blonde.

The Martinsville Police Department need your help in finding a runaway inmate from the Martinsville City Jail.

The inmate has been identified as 33-year-old Dekey Penn.

WDBJ7 was told that Penn was on the work crew earlier today when he ran off.

Penn was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt and work boots.

Anyone with information on Penn's whereabouts should call the Martinsville Sheriff's Office.
