US-58 eastbound over Sandy Creek at Halifax and Pittsylvania County line to reopen

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- After being closed since Tropical Storm Michael hit in October, U.S. 58 over Sandy Creek at the Halifax/Pittsylvania line is expected to reopen one lane of traffic in each direction today.

Since the bridge was closed, motorists have had to use a lengthy detour that extended into North Carolina.

“We will allow one lane of westbound and one lane of eastbound traffic on the U.S. 58 East bridge over Sandy Creek and will remove the detour currently in place,” Dale R. Totten, P.E., Lynchburg District maintenance engineer, said in a news release from VDOT.

VDOT stated that the lane opening will operate at a 30 mph speed limit because of the narrow lane width.
