Upgrades to Christiansburg High School football field begins

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Right now big changes are happening on the field at Christiansburg High School.

Heavy machinery is ripping away the old football field, a new turf field will replace it. An eight lane rubberized track will circle the field.

Work on a new turf softball field, upgrades to bleachers and dugouts at the baseball facility, and a new concession stand will begin soon.

"It's something that we've kind of wanted to have happen for the last 15 years. We haven't been able to host track meets because we have an asphalt track and then the field has been a great field for us but drainage issues," said Tim Cromer, the athletic director for CHS.

Money in a building account was available now to do the work in athletics. The Montgomery County Schools division is working to budget a large renovation of the high school to add more space.
