SALEM, Va. (WDBJ) -- It's just finally starting to feel like fall, but the Virginia Department of Transportation is already gearing up for the first snowfall of winter.
Workers at V-DOT's Salem location are hard at work inspecting trucks and plow equipment that haven't been used since last winter, monitoring salt levels, and training new drivers in preparation for the upcoming snowy season.
“It's really sort of a dress rehearsal as we prepare for the winter weather, and that really gears up here in the fall. Even though it's been warm temperatures, we're already thinking about winter weather and our preparations really start to intensify as we go into the fall,” said VDOT spokesman Jason Bond.
These same types of preparations are going on at VDOT locations all throughout the state so whenever the first winter storm hits, VDOT drivers are prepared.
