VDOT reports multiple accidents along I-81 corridor

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation has reported several accidents Saturday night in the wake of severe weather.

Virginia State Police confirmed killed in a crash involving three tractor-trailers near Mile Marker 89 of Interstate 81 south. The identity of the victim was not released, and it was not know if weather was a factor, VSP stated.

VDOT reported separate accidents along I-81 near Exit 140 near Salem, Exit 72 near Wytheville, Exit 150A in Botetourt County, Exit 195 in Rockbridge County, and Exit 118 near Christiansburg.

A portion of U.S. 460 near the Route 695 junction in Bedford County resulted in lane closures Saturday night, according to VDOT.

Multiple other incidents were reported late Saturday; no injuries have been reported at this time.

VDOT stressed this week that motorists should stay off the roads in severe weather unless necessary.
