VMI freshman dies when car hits tree

STAFFORD, Va. (WDBJ7)-- An 18-year-old man died in a crash early Saturday morning in Stafford.

According to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to reports of the incident around 1:51 in the morning in the area of Sanford Drive and Paul Lane.

Jamison Clark of Stafford was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban when he lost control and went sideways off the road and hit a tree. He was declared dead at the scene.

Clark was a freshman at Virginia Military Institute, according to VMI Colonel Stewart MacInnis.

A 20-year-old passenger was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was described as being in stable condition later that morning.

There will be a memorial service open to the public at Virginia Military Institute at 7 p.m., Friday, December 13.

The investigation into the crash is still active.
