Vacant home in Roanoke County a total loss after overnight fire

A vacant home in Roanoke County is a total loss after a fire Monday morning.

According to Roanoke County Fire and Rescue, crews responded to a house fire in the 3900 block of Whispering Lane in the Mount Pleasant area of Roanoke County at around 2 a.m. Monday. When crews arrived to the scene, they found a brick home completely engulfed in flames.

Neighbors told fire crews that the home has been vacant for months and that renovations were in progress on the home. No one was injured from this fire, according to Roanoke Count Fire and Rescue.

Crews say the roof has collapsed and the home is a total loss.

According to Roanoke County Fire and Rescue, the home sat in a very rural area of Roanoke County where fire hydrants are not present. Fire crews had to relay water using tanker trucks.

Fire crews from Mount Pleasant, Vinton, Cave Spring, Roanoke and North County all responded to the fire.

The Roanoke County Fire Marshal's Office is on scene continuing to investigate a cause of the fire.
