Victim of Colgate Street shooting identified; suspect charged

The victim of an April 25 shooting in Roanoke has been identified, and new details have emerged in the case.
Jeremy Altman, 40, of Roanoke, was shot and killed following a verbal altercation with 18-year-old Laron Simmons, also of Roanoke, according to a release from the city. The dispute escalated and led to the shooting.
Police said the two men knew each other previously.
Simmons has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, the release stated.
The incident occurred around 9:18 p.m. on April 25.
