Victim of Colgate Street shooting identified; suspect charged

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The victim of an April 25 shooting in Roanoke has been identified, and new details have emerged in the case.

Jeremy Altman, 40, of Roanoke, was shot and killed following a verbal altercation with 18-year-old Laron Simmons, also of Roanoke, according to a release from the city. The dispute escalated and led to the shooting.

Police said the two men knew each other previously.

Simmons has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, the release stated.

The incident occurred around 9:18 p.m. on April 25.
