Victim of fatal Roanoke County crash identified

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7)-- Roanoke County Police have identified Thomas Orr II, 48, of Roanoke as the victim of the fatal crash Tuesday at Brambleton Avenue and Garst Mill Road.

According to police, the driver of a Volvo sedan was heading south on Brambleton Avenue and rear-ended the Toyota Orr was driving, causing the Toyota to leave the road and hit a utility pole.

The victim died at the scene.

The Volvo continued south along Brambleton and struck a Cadillac, pushing it into a pickup. The Cadillac's driver was taken to a hospital and has since been released. The pickup's driver was not injured.

The driver of the Volvo was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Everybody involved was wearing seat belts.

According to Roanoke County Police, speed accompanied by drugs and alcohol may be responsible for the crash. Charges are pending and the case is being investigated.
