Man to be charged with breaking into mother's home
Pittsylvania County police responded to a report of someone being shot in the Long Island community Saturday morning.
Officers responded to the 700 block of Cedar Forest Road shortly before 11 a.m. and found one person with gunshot wounds and the alleged shooter still at the scene.
The victim, 25-year-old Xavier Slayton, was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
While at the scene, investigators learned that Slayton had broken into his mother's home and was shot by a 17-year-old relative. Warrants have been obtained for Slayton on the charge of breaking and entering with intent to commit murder, a class three felony.
Charges were not filed for the juvenile involved, and his name is being withheld. The case is still under investigation.
