Virginia Lottery launches Mobile Play
There's a new way to play the lottery, and it involves your smartphone.
The Virginia Lottery has launched Mobile Play, which connects a smartphone or tablet to a lottery retailer's bluetooth signal.
You still have to visit the retailer, but Mobile Play allows you to buy tickets for games like Mega-Millions and Powerball.
And you can also play new e-games, an electronic version of scratchers.
John Hagerty is a spokesperson for the Virginia Lottery.
"So much of what's going on in today's economy is on your smartphone," Hagerty said. "People expect to have that convenience. And so this is a way of the lottery reaching out and meeting people, meeting consumers, where they are."
You can also play the lottery in new mobile-only locations, including restaurants such as Wildwood Smokehouse on Electric Road in Roanoke County.
