One person is dead after a crash on Rt. 501 at Volunteer Rd. in Campbell County.
Virginia State Police say the crash happened around 5:15 p.m. Friday when a Toyota Highlander, driven by Anthony Chambers, of Lynchburg, was traveling along Rt. 501.
Chambers attempted to pass a vehicle, when he crossed the center line and hit a Honda Odyssey head-on.
The driver of the Odyssey, Charlie Smith, of Halifax, was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital along with his wife Mary. The two are being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Smith’s other passenger, Doris Chappell, 77, of Halifax, was taken to the same hospital. Troopers say she died later Friday evening.
Troopers say Chambers was arrested for DUI, and charged with driving on a revoked license.
Chambers had four passengers in his vehicle. He and the four other people were taken to Lynchburg General for treatment of injuries ranging from minor to serious, but troopers say none are life-threatening.
This is under investigation. Additional charges are pending.
