If you ever receive incessant scam calls from phone numbers that appear to have the same area code or similar phone number as yours, then you might be in luck.

A bill was proposed in Virginia to make the "spoof" calls illegal as a part of the Virginia Telephone Privacy and Protection Act.

prohibits, "any person, with the intent to defraud, harass, cause harm, or wrongfully obtain anything of value, from making, placing, or initiating a call or text message or engaging in conduct that results in the display of misleading, false, or inaccurate caller identification information on the receiving party's telephone."

CBS affiliate WTVR reports that Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring is working on the issue of spoofing by joining 34 attorneys general in asking the FCC to allow phone companies to work together to detect and block illegal spoofed robocalls.
