Virginia rolling out new mental health transportation services
The state is rolling out new transportation services for people who are experiencing a mental health crisis.
Monday afternoon, the
gave lawmakers a first look at new alternative transportation vehicles that will go into service soon.
Currently most people who are transported to in-patient treatment travel in law enforcement vehicles, and may be handcuffed even though most have committed no crime.
The new transportation service will have unarmed, specially-trained drivers in secure, unmarked vehicles.
