ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Students and adult volunteers are spending their summer break renovating homes in Roanoke.

The World Changers are made up of different church groups from different states that come to help those in need.

This year, 140 students are staying at the First Baptist Church while renovating 14 homes in the area for a week. They will be replacing windows and decks, painting, repairing bathrooms and much more.

"You're leaving but all of your hard work and hours that you've put into this, it's a great feeling," Richmond Virginia volunteer, Alexis Garnett said.

This year, more than 12,000 volunteers from World Changers will be working in 51 cities in the U.S and Puerto Rico.

"It's a very risky job but we do it anyway because we love people. We want to help them," said Joshua Edwards from Adel, Georgia.

World Changers has been in Roanoke for 19 years.
