LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Next month voters will select at least two new people to serve on Lynchburg City Council.

On Wednesday night they got a chance to learn about the candidates. The League of Women Voters held a candidate forum at city hall.

Christian DePaul and Mary Jane Dolan are running to replace outgoing Mayor Mike Gillette in Ward I.

McKinley Marshall is challenging Sterling Wilder in Ward II.

The current councilman in Ward III, Jeff Helgeson, is facing new opponents Al Billingsly and Charleta Mason.

Ward IV council member, Turner Perrow, is running unopposed.

"Every vote in a city election counts," said Joanna Harris, chair of the voter service committee for the Lynchburg League of Women Voters. "A very few votes can make a big difference in the way issues fall."

Candidates for city treasurer, Ceasor Johnson and Robert Bailey, also participated in tonight's forum.

The election will be held May 3.
