ORIGINAL STORY: An early-morning water main break has parts of Rivermont Avenue closed in Lynchburg.

Crews say the intersection of Boonsboro Road and Link Road should be open sometime Thursday afternoon, but it will be closed again Friday morning for permanent repairs.

The break happened at the intersection of Rivermont Avenue and Link Road early Thursday. Rivermont Avenue is closed near the Oakwood Country Club.

Traffic heading away from downtown is being detoured onto VES Road to Williams Road to Trents Ferry Road. Traffic heading toward downtown is being detoured onto Parkland Drive to Link Road.

People using Link Road are asked to find a route other than Rivermont Avenue until further notice.

If at all possible, the Department of Water Resources is asking drivers to avoid the area altogether to prevent more traffic delays.

Residents in the area may experience discolored water or low water pressure while the water main is being repaired.
