FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) - A woman was killed in a two-car crash Tuesday afternoon.
Virginia State Police are investigating the crash that was reported shortly after 1 p.m. on Route 220, at the intersection of Route 615 in Franklin County.
VSP says the driver of a Ford Taurus was headed south on Route 220, and failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn onto Route 615. The Ford was hit by the driver of a Buick Regal traveling north on Route 220.
The Ford's passenger, 86-year-old Jean Young Mattox of Rocky Mount, died after being taken to a hospital. The driver was hurt. Both were wearing seat belts.
The Buick driver was wearing his belt and was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
The Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was called to assist with the crash, which remains under investigation.
