GLENVAR, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Appomattox County hit the road in the playoffs tonight for the first time in three years, loading up the bus for Glenvar and a matchup of teams sporting identical 11 and 1 records.
The game was delayed a half hour thanks to a power outage in the area but eventually they let the fans back into the stadium.
The Raiders struck first. Javon Scruggs taking off and turning in the big 20 yard run up the middle to move the sticks.
But the drive eventually stalled and kicker Nick Ferris came on to boot a field goal. Just like that it was 3-nothing Appomattox.
Late in the first quarter, Omar Bailey takes the quick handoff up the middle and breaks down the sideline. He's off to the races on a huge 70 yard TD and it was 10 nothing visitors.
To the second quarter, more Raiders, the defense makes a play getting a sack on Landry Gerbers for the third time in the first half.
They capitalized later as Scruggs finds running room again. He breaks tackles and gains another 21 yards to put Appomattox in business again.
Bailey made it 17-nothing, getting the call again and that's the way the first half ended.
In the second half, Glenvar making some noise. The pitch and catch from Gerbers to Logan Williams for 44 yards and that setup a first and goal for the Highlanders.
The very next play, Jack Leonard scored from 9 yards out and we've got a ballgame at 17-7.
Glenvar still with momentum in the fourth quarter. Leonard squirts up the sideline and that's another 44 big yards. They're not gonna get him and it's 20 to 14 with plenty of time left.
But with two minutes left, the Raiders put things out of reach. Da'von Graves hauls in the pass from Scruggs and finishes the play for 49 yards and a score.
Appomattox is moving on with the 26 to 14 win.
