Athletes put the pen to paper on National Signing Day 2019

National Signing Day 2019 is in the books.

Lord Botetourt kicker Trey Rice inked papers with VMI. Rice joins the Keydets after going 10 of 13 on field goals this past season. He booted a 50-yarder against Rockbridge County. Trey also was 63 of 64 on his extra point attempts.

It was Jalen Jackson's turn at Northside High School, where the tri-sport athlete signed to play football next year at UVA-Wise. The quarterback led the Vikings to an 11-2 season under head coach Scott Fisher. Jackson will play quarterback for the Cavaliers.

Staying in Roanoke County, three from Hidden Valley are moving on to play at the next level. Offensive lineman Josmeer Blake and wide receiver Aaron Moore both signing with Glenville State. And tight end Austin Thompson heading to the coast to suit up for Christopher Newport University.

In Danville, a host of George Washington Eagles signed today. Brothers Carlos and Carl Poole are on their way to Old Dominion to suit up for the Monarchs. Quentin Elam is headed to Virginia State in Petersburg. And Marquis Carter will take the field for Coach Rob Grande at Ferrum as one of the new Panthers.

Eight more signings at Blacksburg. The class included athletes from five different sports. The Bruins football team had three commits, including linebacker and River Ridge District defensive player of the year, Drew Babcock, who will attend William and Mary next year.
His teammate Cole Epperley signed with Averett University and Jacob Lucas will move on to Ferrum College in the fall.

From the golf team, Ben Carroll will play at Charleston Southern and Jakob Duncan is headed to Maryville College.

Midfielder Sam Dickinson will continue his soccer career at Christopher Newport University.

Anna Kender will run track at Bucknell University, and Melody Scales will join the volleyball team at Xavier University in New Orleans.
