COVINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Auburn made the trek up to Covington Friday night where the Eagles made themselves right at home.
This one was all Auburn. First, QB Payson Kelly gave it to Malachi Spencer, who found a hole off tackle and burst through to find the endzone on the touchdown.
Then Kelly decided to keep it on a bit of a busted play to go in for the second score of the night for the Eagles.
Second-quarter, and maybe things would get better for the Cougars, but no.
Kelly hands off to Carson East, and he gets in on the scoring act to put Auburn up big.
Covington trying to answer and Cougars QB Simon Gibson finds Jabari Williams on the big gainer, but a huge hit by Justin Otey brings out the ball. Rusty Marshall scoops it up and heads out.
That led to an Auburn field goal an the Eagles advance with the 44 to 12 win.
