Five Area Teams Claim State Titles On The Diamond

The William Byrd Terriers claimed the first state softball title in school history, beating Woodgrove 3-2 in Salem Friday. Sydney Burton drove in Megan Grant with the game winning run in the 7th inning.
Liberty got a two hitter from Millie Thompson and broke a 1-all tie with Turner Ashby with two fifth inning runs to beat the Knights 4-1 to claim the Class 3 Championship.
In Class 1 softball, Auburn whipped Rappahannock County 18 to 1. Abby Wilson delivered a 3 run homer for the Eagles.
The Auburn baseball team made it a clean sweep, blowing out Lancaster 9-0.
And the Chatham Cavaliers won the Class 2 baseball title by beating Lebanon 23 to 5.
