ROCKBRIDGE, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The William Fleming Colonels kicked off their season with a resounding 52-10 win over Harrisonburg last week. Friday night the Colonels went after back-to-back wins for the first time since 2014, but Rockbridge County stood in the way.
It was the home opener in Lexington.
And the Wildcats drew first blood on the give to Gage Shafer and he caps the drive going right up the gut for the score.
But Fleming marching back the other way. Quarterback Deaquan Nichols keeps it himself and he's in for 6. It was 14-all after a quarter.
That's when Shafer gets the call again. He's going untouched up the gut for the touchdown to put Rockbridge back in front.
The back and forth continued. Nichols rolls out of the pocket and then flips it to Sae'quan Bannister who turns on the jets and makes a house call on the touchdown.
Rockbridge then going to the air. Jailik Lynch with a little shake and then some bake on his way to the zone and it's a 20-14 ballgame.
The Colonels take control in the third quarter though. Nichols doing his thing on the keep and how about another big pass to Bannister, who loses his helmet but keeps the T-D.
Fleming is 2 and 0 thanks to the 28-26 win over Rockbridge County.
