PEARISBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Giles had won 16 of the last 17 matchups with Floyd County but the Buffs were loaded for bear Friday night in Pearisburg.
The Giles Spartans came in on a high note after a gritty 12-7 win over Narrows, while Floyd County, hungry for a win, was looking to change the narrative.
On the first drive, Giles tricked out the Buffaloes' defense, as Chase Fleeman fought his way to the endzone. Giles takes a 7-0 lead.
Floyd County did a good job of responding though, handoff goes to Hunter Adkins who waltzed in for the score, tying it up at 7.
The Buffaloes had some issues with the ensuing kickoff but Giles had no problem.
First play from scrimmage, Hunter Williams breaks free with room to run, 54 yards to put the Spartans back on top 14-7. This one was back and forth all game long.
In the second quarter, the direct snap to junior Logan Greenway, wide open to the end zone. Giles punches back ahead 21-13.
But the Buffaloes fought back all, night, long. Just before halftime, the handoff again to Yates who only needed a couple for paydirt. The 2 point conversion was successful, tying it at 21 at halftime.
The Buffaloes went on to lose a tough one, 24-21, as Giles continued its dominance against Floyd County.
