Ford Drivers Conduct Tire Test at Martinsville
The NASCAR Cup Series is headed to Watkins Glen this week but before that, three drivers were selected to take part in a two day tire test at Martinsville.
Clint Bowyer, Paul Menard and Ryan Blaney took their respective Fords for some turns around the half mile Tuesday and Wednesday in an effort to help Goodyear find the best tire compound to bring back to the playoff race in late October.
"I think you obviously have to have a tire that has some fall off that creates a little action within," said Bowyer. "A guy gets to slipping and sliding around getting into the corner and has trouble putting the throttle down, that's an opportunity for somebody to pass and to put on a show for the fans. At the end of the day, that's what we are here to do so we've got a lot of different compounds and a lot of different tires that we are going through."
