The programs at Galax and Glenvar have been the models of consistency over the last five years. Both the Maroon Tide and the Highlanders have amassed 50 plus wins in that stretch.

Tonight the two met on the brand spanking new turf in Highlander Heaven. Anthony Romano had a front row seat for our Spotlight Game of the Week.

A ribbon cutting kicked it off as the Highlander Faithful saluted the brand new dance floor, but the Maroon Tide were out to spoil the day.

First score on the new rug belongs to Galax, on a Denver Brown reception to go up 7-0.

Glenvar tied it up early in the second quarter, then later on it's Brady Loder breaking loose down the sideline, finally gets brought down inside the 10.

Sets it up for Colby Street to punch it in up close, and the Highlanders grab a 14-7 lead.

Let's go right before the half, Maroon Tide get the ball off an interception, Cole Pickett finds his man Zach Johnson, and he takes it to the house...Galax leads at half 19-14.

Coming out the break, Pickett once again finds Johnson, those two were feeling it for back to back scores. Tide up 26-14.

But the Highlanders would not go quietly...let's count the missed tackles here folks, [five in total] Brady Loder.

and Glenvar cuts the deficit to just five points.

Then, Glenvar driving again, QB Aiden Wolk pump fakes, then lets it loose and finds Nick Sebolt--the Highlanders would punch it in to take a 3 point lead.

But they left too much time for Pickett and the Maroon Tide offense, and who else? Zach Johnson, his third touchdown of the games, Galax goes up 32-29, and on the ensuing drive for Glenvar, Wolk looking for an option down the field, but instead he finds Pickett, who picks it, to win it, and Galax gets a road win over Glenvar with the Pickett-Johnson duo shining in week one.
